Safe Manual Handling
Over one third of all accidents in the UK that cause time to be lost at work are associated with manual handling operations.
Injuries include fractures, cuts, bruises, sprains and strains, but injuries to the back are the most common. This self-study course will help employers and employees implement the Manual Handling Operations Regulations that were introduced in response to the high level of accidents caused by manual handling operations throughout all EC countries. The systematic approach to handling required by the regulations is explained and measures that will reduce the risk of injury are suggested.
Guidance is given on carrying out an assessment of manual handling operations, including who should be involved and what should happen after the assessment. Safe Manual Handling is recommended for people who hold or carry a load in the course of their work, and those who assess manual handling operations.
