Redeem - radiation detection

Redeem - radiation detection

Corus is the only UK manufacturer and supplier of Radiation Portal Monitors and the first in Europe to produce a system as compact as Redeem™.

We have been manufacturing radiation detection equipment since the late 1980’s. Engineers and scientists based at Swinden Technology Centre in the UK are continuing to develop the radiation detection systems as part of the Continuous Improvement Programme.

The new generation of Redeem Radiation Portal Monitors(RPM) have been designed for use in Homeland Security applications to detect both neutrons and gamma radiation. This is a countermeasure to stop the illicit trafficking of Special Nuclear Materials (SNM) and other radioactive substances.

Redeem™ is the ideal product for everyone concerned with the protection and safety of the people and buildings.

There is a significant threat from terrorists and insurgents who seek to disrupt the flow of business through the real and threatened use of radiological devices. Redeem™ can minimise this threat, by detecting radioactive material when it is present.

Typical applications include building entrances and exits, package and mail screening centres, pedestrian and luggage screening at ports, airports and high profile building security such as government offices and corporate headquarters.

The largest RPM can be used to scan a whole lorry or container, the smallest is suitable for smaller packages, baggage handling and scanning mail.

Environment
Corus is an international company with a strong environmental policy and was the first steel works to install a detection system in Europe
How it works
Information on how Redeem works.
Metal recycling
The melting of a radioactive source in a steel works can be catastrophic to a steel maker. It can have a major impact on operations that could result in huge financial losses from cleaning up contaminated plant and lost steel production.
Security
Just as governments recognised the need for increased security in the past which led to the introduction of x-ray machines and metal detectors. Now the implementation of new countermeasures is seeing the introduction of radiation screening at international ports and airports.
