Tension Leveller Set-ups for Improved Strip Flatness

Corus produces tinplate material which must be of a high quality, in terms of strip flatness, to allow further processing of the strip at customers’ plants.

In order to ensure the flatness of the outgoing strip, the material is tension levelled.

The TRL tension and roller levelling model provides a tool for analysing the effect of machine configuration and settings on the behaviour of the strip as it proceeds through the leveller. The model was used to develop a table for optimising the leveller set up and to produce flat strip steel at the leveller exit.

As a result of implementing the revised leveller set-up strategy, the consistency of the shape of outgoing material has been improved.
