Modelling of Heating and Cooling Processes

Within the steel industry there are a variety of heating and cooling processes.

As a part of different heat treatments (annealing) there are direct and indirect heating and cooling processes for steel strip, sheet and coils. These include combustion, induction, gas jet cooling, water cooling and mist cooling.

We can draw up a mathematical model for you of your heating and cooling installations, describing the entire thermal process, which will:

  • Quantify the influence of equipment and/or process modifications.
  • Establish optimal process conditions
  • Develop recipes for process control
  • Assess different designs of furnaces, burners and other heat treatment equipment

Examples of results include:

  • Slab temperature profiles across slab thickness and furnace length
  • Heat balance of each burner zone
  • Fuel distribution and consumption
