Batch Annealing
In batch annealing furnaces coils of strip undergo heat treatment to achieve the required mechanical properties by recrystallisation.
The temperature at which the material will start recrystallising depends on the material grade and cold rolling reduction.
By cleverly combining coils in different charges we can maximise the tonnage in a charge and minimise annealing time from coil to coil.
We have developed a scheduling model that increases capacity by creating charges with an optimum combination of coils and in such a way that the entire coil population will be scheduled.
This model is now widely used throughout Corus.
