Foundry Products at Corus Process Engineering have the skills and expertise to design and manufacture a range of oxygen lance nozzles and sub lance tips.

Under normal operational conditions, the working life of a BOF Oxygen Lance Nozzle is limited by the progressive degradation of its crown or oxygen port exits, leading to either the risk of water leaking into the vessel, the onset of an actual water leak, or impaired blowing characteristics.

By first understanding the mechanisms behind nozzle degradation during operation, working in conjunction with Corus steel makers and research facilities, Foundry Products have successfully developed a number of combative design techniques. These design techniques, which primarily target oxygen blowing parameters, port exit shape retention and water cooling efficiency, can be applied to any conventional BOF Oxygen Lance Nozzle and offer the dual benefit of an improved blowing consistency throughout an extended campaign life. The used nozzle shown has successfully completed a campaign of 306 heats.

Using the base design and manufacturing technology developed for BOF Oxygen Lance Nozzles, Foundry Products also produce a successful range of other injection nozzles for use in EAF and AOD process

In direct response to an unacceptable level of probe connection failure incidents with conventional BOF sub lances, Foundry Products have developed and proven an alternative design. As a means to further reduce sub lance service costs, other more radical design alternatives are also now being pursued
