 Corus Process Engineering have been manufacturing shield doors for the nuclear industry since the late 1970's. These contracts have varied in scope from being turnkey supply to sub-contract work for primary site contractors. To date over 40 separate shield doors have been manufactured for 6 different nuclear customers. Typical of these contracts was the recent £2.3m shield door contract for BNFL's Vitrification Line 3. This contract was for the manufacture, supply, assembly, and testing of 9 off shield doors and 4 flap doors, it also included the drive systems, rails and associated operational equipment. Each door assembly weighed between 25 and 40 Tonnes and were tested on our Workington site, using specialised test rigs that were designed and manufactured in-house before being delivered to site on a phased 18 month schedule to suit the plant construction programme. | |
