Technologies

Corus have undertaken and managed many development projects aimed at saving our customers money through extending the life of equipment and consumables.

These projects have resulted in a portfolio of technologies. By integrating many of these technologies customers have:

  • Significantly reduced the cost of refurbishing equipment through extending the machine life and reliability.
  • Achieved better product quality through improved spray pattern cooling control.
  • Reduced internal defects by better alignment techniques and devices.
  • Improved roll wear by improved material selection. extended copper mold plate performance via optimised cooling profiles and hot face coatings.

New technologies are continuously being developed to further reduce operating costs and improve quality.

This integrated approach ensures optimum levels of steel cleanlinessfrom ladle to mould. Parameters may be controlled and data logged using this system.

Castcoat, ceramic coated mould plates

Used worldwide, Castcoat is a proven technology which increases the life of continuous caster mould plates by up to 6 times.Such an increase can lead to improved casting machine availability, better product shape and massive maintenance savings.

Caster oscillation checksBack to Top
Caster oscillation checks

Correct mould oscillation is critiacal for the production of high quality steel slabs. We can supply equipment and training to enable caster operators to check and verify correct oscillation. In adition, our engineers can conduct oscillation checks on site.

The Clinotec enables operators and maintenacne crews  to check the angle of the mold end plate i.e. take a precise measurement of the vertical angle at which the mould plates are positioned.

Envirolube, grease/air lubricationBack to Top

This is a low grease consumption bearing system which has been specifically designed for use with continuous caster rolls.

Heat energy recoveryBack to Top

Large amounts of residual heat are contained within the strands of continuous casting machines. Using a patented Corus Process Engineering  technology, heat may be captured and used to create steam which can be re-injected into the local steam mains or used directly to create electricity.

Used to diagnose mold solidification problems, these systems prove invaluable when optimising operational practices and protecting the casting machine from breakouts.

Peripherally drilled rolls

To increase roll stability and life, we can develop, design and supply peripherally drilled water-cooled rolls to improve surface and internal slab quality.
