Location: Latin America Corus Consulting was appointed by a Latin American tinplate producer to advise and assist in the implementation of a wide-ranging performance improvement programme. The programme was focused on operational improvement throughout the flat rolling installations (hot rolling, pickling, cold rolling, annealing and production of tinplate and tin free steel) and was aimed at improvements in quality, yield and operational efficiency. Direct plant based assistance was provided, supported by appropriate training aimed at developing the operational knowledge and capability of the client's own manufacturing team. A two-phase programme was developed: Phase 1- Immediate implementation of corrective actions to address existing process and quality performance issues, together with assistance in defining medium and long-term programmes to address quality, operational control and management capability. Phase 2 - Consolidating the short-term corrective actions through the development of standard operating and maintenance procedures and practices, and through specific training related to process, technology and management. The training included exposure of the client's staff to operations at the tinplate production facilities of Corus so that they could witness at first hand the practices and procedures necessary to produce world-class quality product. | |
