IPPC
Corus is an international company with significant expertise in the environmental field and can provide operators with the technical support and guidance required to successfully manage all aspects of IPPC from the preparation of the application through to managing permits and surrendering licences.
The system of Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) applies an integrated environmental approach to the regulation of certain industrial sectors.
It thereby ensures that a range of environmental effects are collectively considered and that regulators set permit conditions so as to achieve a high level of protection for the environment as a whole. To gain a permit, operators must demonstrate the Best Available Techniques (BAT), which balances the costs to the operator against the benefits to the environment.
Corus has a significant amount of expertise and can provide a comprehensive range of technical advice and guidance to assist operators with their legal requirements specifically in the following areas (see other specific Corus Consulting environmental handouts for more details):
Emission Monitoring
The emissions inventory section of the IPPC application requires operators to describe the nature, quantity and sources of foreseeable emissions from the installation. Professionals within the Environment Department at Corus have extensive experience of emission monitoring and can assist with the quantification of a variety of different pollutant releases from complex industrial activities. Upon receipt of a permit, Corus RD&T can also assist with the environmental monitoring that is required to ensure compliance with permit conditions.
Site Condition Reports
Intrusive site investigations that establish a baseline for land contamination are essential in the application for an IPPC permit. Corus are capable of conducting full site investigations for the purpose of initial and closure site condition reports.
Noise Assessments
The IPPC Regulations require installations to be operated in such a way that all the appropriate measures are taken against pollution. Noise is not exempt from this and as such Corus can assist operators with the identification of noise sources, sensitive receivers and appropriate control measures. In addition to this, environmental noise monitoring surveys are undertaken in the local community to establish the installations’ contribution to background noise levels. For new installations, assistance can be given with the prediction and assessment of the environmental impact of noise releases using SoundPLAN modelling software.
Impact Assessments
Corus have extensive experience in undertaking environmental impact assessments to satisfy IPPC requirements. These assessments have been undertaken in accordance with the Environment Agency’s Guidance Document. Where more detailed modelling was required atmospheric dispersion modelling and ambient air monitoring has also been incorporated.
Waste
A wealth of experience has been developed within the Environment Department at Corus which enables assistance to be given to operators with waste related issues under IPPC. Examples of which include waste audits, waste characterisation, waste minimisation strategies, assessments of waste management solutions and recycling technologies.
In conclusion
Corus has a proven track record in preparing applications and managing installations under the IPPC regime and can provide a quality service at competitive prices.
