Location: Various Corus Consulting has conducted a number of research studies for international agencies, governments and metals producers. Studies have encompassed a wide range of producing and consuming sectors related to the metals industry. Most countries of the world have been covered and research has involved interview surveys as well as desk studies utilising data sources within and outside the Corus Group. A multilateral funding agency commissioned Corus Consulting to undertake a research study of the international steel industry, to assist in the determination of the agency's investment policy. It assessed the current status and trends in key aspects of the world steel industry, including manufacturing facilities and capacities, technologies, raw material supplies, product development, and international trade in steel. Also, the outlook and scenarios for the world steel industry were reviewed, and likely developments elaborated for each main geographical region. Corus Consulting also carried out an appraisal of flat products supply and demand in Central and Eastern Europe on behalf of a major steel producer with the aim of identifying opportunities for collaboration or investment. The study focused on Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic and included interviews of flat products producers and consumers. A similar study was also conducted in respect of the engineering steels sector. In addition, a broad-based review of the steel industries of the whole of Central and Eastern Europe, including Russia, was undertaken. This review gave an analysis of the industries' location pattern, manufacturing facilities and infrastructure, including raw material and energy supplies and transport links. A comprehensive review of steel markets in Asia Pacific was also undertaken on behalf of one of the governments of the region. The review was part of an assessment of the potential viability of a greenfield steel project to be based upon indigenous resources of iron ore. | |
