Mechanical performance of steel cans

Pressure-Volume Behaviour of Steel Cans During Sterilisation

What we offer
We have a large range of tools available for predicting and testing the mechanical performance of food cans. In combination with a newly developed pressure-volume approach, we can provide an overall picture of performance.

For example, computer modelling and testing equipment is available to predict the axial load and the panelling pressure of (beaded) can walls, nosing pressure of can ends and the pressure-volume relationship of the can.

Computer modelling can also predict the pressure volume relationship of the contents during heat treatment, while testing equipment can determine the behaviour of filled cans during a heat treatment in a research size autoclave. Temperatures and pressures can be measured both inside and outside the cans.
