Mechanical properties of components

Fracture and Fatigue Testing
Our Fatigue and Fracture Knowledge Group has three laboratories containing a wide range of test machines and sophisticated data logging equipment.
Friction and Wear Assessment
Friction arises in all areas of contact in the sheet metal forming process. This affects the development of stress and strain across the formed part. In addition, the contact between sheet metal and forming tools can also cause wear.
Mechanical performance of steel cans
We have a large range of tools available for predicting and testing the mechanical performance of food cans. In combination with a newly developed pressure-volume approach, we can provide an overall picture of performance.
Strain analysis
Corus offer strain measurements using a Corus co-developed, very accurate system (PHAST), to help diagnose problems in pressings.
Structural Integrity
Our Structural Integrity work enables the safe use of materials, products and structures throughout their service life. This enables the properties of modern materials to be fully exploited and service lives maximised. It is therefore highly cost effective. Our work encompasses the disciplines of metallurgy, welding, fracture mechanics, environmentally assisted cracking, reliability and stress analysis.
